Intention statement for #GGJ12

The Global Game Jam of 2012 is going to be my first attempt of a game jam. I have participated on the compo event of the 22nd edition of the Ludum Dare, but this is different. This is cooperative.

So, I think my intentions have to differ from the ones of the Ludum Dare. In particular, I want to:

  • Avoid being a heavy load for the team I end up with.
  • Make a complete game (with ending and win/lose situations).
  • Learn new techniques from the experts around.

I will be happy if I can check the first point, but I'm going full for all three!

Target locked!

I've been accepted to participate in the Global Game Jam (in Madrid which has limited forum).

I don't know how I convinced them, but I'm happy I did.

So this weekend is going to be the same madness as in December with the Ludum Dare, except this session is multiplayer!

I'll be updating my thoughts and curses about the event using Posterous.

Good luck to all!

Leave me Alone! #LD48 final version

I'm so tired I could sleep for a week.

In the end I added more levels (I think it's 12 in total) and some ugly sound effects. I would have like to include some decent music and better quality sound effects, but hadn't have the time nor the knowledge to do it.

The Ludum Dare 22 entry is in this link. If you are elegible for voting, please, take a moment and criticize my work, even if it's bad for me. Thanks!

Leave me Alone! goes beta!

Yeah!

I think this can be considered a crappy full game. It still has no sound effect (better not to talk about music...) and there's only four levels. Right now, I'm making levels as fast as possible. No time to describe it better. Check it out!

Leave me Alone! version 0.4 (alpha)

After 25 hours programming for #LD48. I have a version of the game that I started liking.

But the price is so high. My neck aches. My eyes ache. My head also aches...

In case you want to test it you can find a link at the end of this post.

Bear in mind that I have to make more levels and place some sounds effects yet. So don't be very disapointed with you see.

Leave me Alone! version 0.3

And yet another update.

Now it is a complete game. It's crappy because it has no sounds, just one level, no title screen (= no advertisement to my webpage and my Twitter account), and most important, no kitties...

But hey, this is the fartherst I've never got to make a game.

Again, feel free to test it and comment anything that flashes on your mind :-)

PLAY "LEAVE ME ALONE!" v0.3 (still crappy pre-alpha)

Leave me Alone! version 0.2

This is shaping nicely :-)

I just uploaded the latest version of "Leave me Alone!". I have improved some graphics and added some animations in case you're careless. So, be careful with the fire ;-)

I'm starting to be really tired, but I think it is worth the effort. Specially if finally tomorrow I'm not able to do anything.

Hope you enjoy it!

PLAY LEAVE ME ALONE v0.2 (still pre-alpha)

Leave me Alone! version 0.1

I think I have done enough to show the current work in progress. I've been working on this non-stop since 3am (just 30 minutes to have dinner and 20 for breakfast). You can test it here. Do not hesitate to comment how awful/lame it is. I want to hear every opinion :-)

Now I'm going to focus on the game itself. I mean, the condition for which you win or you lose. So I have to program some player pushes and some boxes movements. Nothing complicated.

I wanted to used better sprites for the "items" that you have to get rid of, but I prefer to finish something low-quality than going all-in for nothing.

Idea and main character

The topic for the 22nd edition of #LD48 is "ALONE".

My idea for the game is quite dramatic (in the line of the game I played 15 minutes before knowing the topic from Terry Cavanagh and increpare). You're a complicated teenager that don't want to be disturbed. So, you throw your friends, family, pets, possesions, to the flames that sorround your house.

You win if throw everthing out. You lose if you can't throw all items/persons.

By throw I mean to push. You can only push, but there are some walls that prevent you to push any further. So careful with stucking someone/something into a wall!

The main character is this punk.

Now, after 9 hours and half without stop (but 20 minutes for breakfast) I think I deserve a hot shower and a bit more of tea!

See you later!

Intention statement for #LD48

Ok.

It's done.

I'm in for the #LD48 48-hour game-making competition.

It's time to face reality and aim for a reasonable goal. I don't think I'm prepared to win. I don't even know if I really want to win. But at least, I have to finish a "game". And by finish I mean:

  • Make a stable program,
  • With a set of rules,
  • With a clear goal,
  • With clear WIN and LOSE conditions.

I don't care too much if graphics are crap. I'm not really good at it and I'm not improving that in 48 hours. I don't care about music too, since I'm far worst at composing than at drawing. But it has to be, at least, a crappy finished game.

That's my intention statement. I'm going to rate this experience based on these objectives.
